Rain-soaked West Indies qualify for Super 8s

A wet end to Ireland’s tournament….:(

Yet another West Indies game dampened. Maybe they should wear raincoats for their next match 😛 Anyway, After a rain-washed encounter with Australia, which they lost, the West Indies would have wanted to keep their feet dry for the Ireland game. Unfortunately they were unable to finish the match as it was called off with Ireland at 129-6 after 19 overs. Unfortunately for the Irishmen, the net runrate played in favor of the Windies, so they couldn’t qualify. The Windies looked really positive as Fidel Edwards gave Irish skipper William Porterfield his second golden duck, crashing his stumps in ball 1. Then Paul Stirling offered some resistance, but he fell to Darren Sammy. Then Ed Joyce was bowled by Narine for 17, after which a strong stand came between keepers Niall O’ Brien and Gary Wilson. Then Chris Gayle, who smashed a glorious fifty against Australia, came back and bowled his best figures since around IPL 2011. He had Wilson caught behind (pure irony that), and knocked over O’ Brien’s stumps. Kevin O’ Brien went for a slow 15-ball 13, but some late runs from Trent Johnston (15 of 10) and Nigel Jones (14 of 11) took them to 129 in 19 overs, after which rain took over, forcing the match to be abandoned. So a very sad end to the Irish bid for the cup, so catch us for the last game of the league stage, Bangladesh vs Pakistan. Adios, have a great day 🙂
