IND vs AUS- First Test

The India Australia test series has begun. Australia won the toss, and chose to bat. However, the ozzies then began to collapse with only Ponting (62) and test debutant opener Ed Cowan (68) standing out. Contributions from David Warner (37) Micheal Clarke (31) amd Brad Haddin (27) came through the middle order. Shaun Marsh and Micheal Hussey were disappointing as they registered a duck each. Despite runs coming at regular intervals, nobody actually stayed for a very long time. It was thanks to some last minute shots from Peter Siddle (41), James Pattison (18) and Ben Hilfenhaus (19) that they managed to reach a total of 333 all out.  Zaheer Khan, who was playing his first game since that unforgivable tour of England, was the pick of the bowlers for his 4/77 from 31 overs as off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and pacer Umesh Yadav picked up 3 wickets apiece.India’s batting got off to a slight hiccup as Gautam Gambhir (3) was picked up by Ben Hilfenhaus. Sehwag played well until he took an inside edge of Pattison that took off his stumps on 67. Dravid remained not out on 68 and made a strong 117 run partnership with Sachin Tendulkar. Sadly, Sachin failed yet again to get his 100th ton (he’d better get it soon or he will be remembered as the man who got out on 99 99 times after getting 99 hundreds). Sachin was bowled by Siddle on 73 a little while before the umpires called for stumps on day 2.
