Australia ride home on Pattinson’s all round effort

James Pattison celebrates after bowling out Zaheer Khan in the first test today at Melbourne

India were put into a shock in the first test vs Australia in Melbourne as James Pattinson played his role with both bat and ball. After that wonderful start to India’s first innings by Sachin, Sehwag and Dravid, they witnessed a serious middle order collapse as only Ishant (11), Kohli (11) and Ashwin (31) crossed double digits as they fell to 282 all out. The collapse was engineered by pacer Ben Hilfenhaus, who took 5 for 75 of 26 overs. The Indian bowlers did wonderfully in the Ozzie’s 2nd Innings, with only Ponting (60) and Micheal Hussey (89) scoring double digits in the middle order. Then yet another tail ender show took place as James Pattinson (37 not out) and Ben Hilfenhaus (14) took them to a score of 240 all out, and a lead of 291. The Indians simply were helpless as Pattinson tore through the order and only Sachin (32), Dhoni (23), Ashwin (30) and Yadav (21) got above 20 as they collapsed to 169 all out, losing the game by 122 runs. James Pattinson was named Man Of The Match for his all round contribution in both innings.
